God gave Pastor Williams the vision to organize a church many years ago but hesitant to do so due to uncertainty, he continued to serve in ministry at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his Pastor, Dr. J.C. Wade, Jr., all the while praying and seeking assurance and direction from God.
His heart was settled on October 20th while visiting Sis. Irene Butler, who was in the hospital at that time. While praying for Sis. Butler, once again God placed it upon his heart to organize a church. Simultaneously, God gave him the name "Greater Destiny Bible Church."
God also placed several people in his life who would aid and assist him in surrendering to his call from God. On Wednesday, October 25th, Pastor Williams met with several potential members, to formulate some of the necessary legal issues that needed to be completed in preparation of officially establishing Greater Destiny.
On Sunday, November 5th, Pastor Williams baptized the first member of Greater Destiny: Sis. Tamara Robinson at Zion M.B. Church. Bro. John Suttles became the second member during the baptismal service.
On Thursday, November 9th, the first formal organizational meeting was held at 801 E. Chicago Ave, East Chicago, Indiana with twelve (12) people in attendance who became the first members of Greater Destiny Bible Church. During this meeting, we prayed for God's blessings on the ministry and on Sunday, December 3, 2006, at 10:00 am and 11:00 am, we held our first "Worship in the Word" and our first "Morning Worship Service".
Pastor Kelly B. Williams, Sr. was duly installed as Pastor of the Greater Destiny Bible Church on January 28, 2007 after a triumphant message by the Rev. Dr. J. C. Wade Jr., Pastor of the Zion M. B. Baptist Church of East Chicago.
Pastor shared his vision for a W.O.W. WORSHIP (Worship Outside the Walls) Service. This service expanded to our W.O.W Unity Fest held annually at Tod Park, East Chicago, Indiana and will continue to be a permanent part of our outreach.
